The Bodybugg® armband works by using four sensors that monitor various aspects of the body’s energy expenditure.
Program in Focus
An accelerometer predicts the level of physical exertion undertaken by the body at a given moment.
A heat sensor measures the heat let off by the body. The more heat, the more calories the body is burning.
A galvanic skin response (GSR) sensor measures the electrical current that can pass between two points on the skin. In the case of body sweat or psychological stress, conductivity fluctuates.
A temperature sensor measures core temperature trends. These fluctuate with physical activity as well.
For monitoring caloric consumption, Bodybugg® employs a web interface that tracks weekly body mass changes. Users can track with a food log. These tools are conventional and easy to understand. Too bad the Bodybugg® presentation misleads consumers into thinking the Bodybugg® itself will somehow monitor caloric intake. As this is not the case, it looks like users will have to check and recheck their computers all the time for the up-to-date information Bodybugg® promises.

Final Thoughts
Bodybugg® could be a useful gadget so far as it goes. Consumers might want to beware that it will involve some extra work to maintain surveillance over all this information. If you’re already eating well, exercising regularly, and supplementing sensibly, then you might not need Bodybugg’s® help after all.
